Alarcón Román, M. Carmen. "El teatro como didáctica de la santidad. El diálogo que representaron las carmelitas descalzas de Toledo en la vela de la Madre Ana de San José. Año de 1660." Medievalia, vol. 18, no. 2, 2015, p. 247-72.
This article focuses on the didactic nature of convent theater in the Spanish golden age. Older women, like Sor Francisca, would write colloquies to instruct younger nuns on how to behave, what sort of things to aspire to, and how to become more like God. Alarcón characterizes Sor Marcela de San Félix and Sor Francisca de Santa Teresa as the two writers of the Order of the Barefoot Trinitarians (la orden de trinitarias descalzas) who wrote poetry and plays about the act of the profession of a young nun. These plays are examples of convent writers combining entertainment and festivities with spiritual guidance and education.
