Give, oh sov’reign Virgin, the happy “yes”

to the divine envoy whom here you see,

because all the world’s communal ease

upon that transcendent being now rests.

 

The Word, awaits with respect your behest

— even though He has no need of your leave —

obeying ahead of time as you please,

will not descend without this glorious “yes.”

 

Look at what you to his clemency owe,

for a Sov’reign God, able to descend

to the pure cloister a God deserves,

 

won’t descend until your leave you bestow,

so you see what he once human intends,

who before human your rule now observes.
