↑1 | Note that the manuscript has a number of diacritic inconsistencies. These are maintained in the diplomatic transcription. |
---|---|
↑2 | Folios are numbered with single Arabic numerals in the upper right corner of the manuscript on rectos. |
↑3 | “pobres” has been added with an arrow above the main text. |
↑4 | “ra” are also written smaller like the “a” in “Doña” or “segundo”, etc. Other abbreviations also appear this way throughout the manuscript though the font of the diplomatic transcript may not be able to reflect this. |
↑5 | Scholars usually take this to mean that Leonor did not write the account herself, but likely dictated it, and probably to a notary due to its legal implications. |
↑6 | “Hijo de Juan Hernandez de Henestrosa” has been added above the main text. |
↑7 | Here the text begins its first of many underscored sections. These mostly correspond with speech, but not all the speech in the manuscript is underlined. |
↑8 | The word “muchos” is stricken out and “nueve” written above. |
↑9 | “H” has been added over “Enrique”. This begins the first of an indication of alternate spellings throughout the document. It is unclear whether the interlinear suggestion is the original or the copyist’s suggestion. It may also express a discrepancy between multiple manuscripts that the transcriber is using. |
↑10 | There is a laguna here where other manuscripts have “encima”. |
↑11 | A period in parentheses appears here and “1383” is written in the left margin. |
↑12 | Other manuscripts have “le pidió” here. |
↑13 | A few lines of text are missing here that appear in other manuscripts regarding the alcaide’s reply. |
↑14 | The word “collares” is written above “cadenas”. |
↑15 | “murió” is written above “mi Tio”. |
↑16 | Large space before and after “han” in the manuscript. No apparent laguna. |
↑17 | “Tenia” written above “traia”. |
↑18 | Other manuscripts have “y toda la” here. |
↑19 | Box around “mi”. |
↑20 | Above “Rojas” is a small “x”. |
↑21 | Small “b” written above “aguelo”. |
↑22 | A small “g” written above “acojeron”. |
↑23 | “el” appears above “su”. |
↑24 | Both a dot and a tilde appear over the “i” in “perdí” |
↑25 | “h” above “ove”. |
↑26 | “H” above “Guerfano”. |
↑27 | “Comprar” is followed by a long hyphen without any apparent reason except that the line is somewhat shorter than the rest. |
↑28 | “o” above “las”. |
↑29 | “ph” above “Alfonso”. |
↑30 | “Sor” severely blotted with ink. |
↑31 | Other manuscripts have “dadome”. There are some ink blotting issues on this and the following line |
↑32 | “y” over “que”. |
↑33 | “h” over “avian”. |
↑34 | Something like “mañá” or “maria” is written above “manera”. |
↑35 | “H” above “Guerfano”. |
↑36 | “y” above “aiudó”. |
↑37 | “sesenta y seis” is written out above “66 años”. |
↑38 | “h” over “avia”. |
↑39 | “f” above “hijo”. |
↑40 | “le” above “se”. |
↑41 | Possible tilde over the “u” here, but may be just a blot. It does not look like the copyist’s other tildes, and while his use of them is inconsistent, he never places a diacritic elsewhere over “su” in the rest of the manuscript. |
↑42 | “y” over “aiuda”. |
↑43 | “otres” over “otras”. |
↑44 | “H” above “Guerfano”. |
↑45 | The function of a hyphen/tilde here is unclear and possibly an error. |
↑46 | Other manuscripts have “para sus hijas, por que” in this laguna. |
↑47 | “H” over “Guerfano”. |
↑48 | Scribal error here. Should be “Carboneros”. |
↑49 | “assi” above “esso”. |
↑50 | Other manuscripts have “dolencia” here, but this is illegible in this manuscript, as though the scribe started writing one word, realized his mistake, and then tried to amend it in a very short space. |
↑51 | “y” over “oió” |
↑52 | “h” over “obiere” |
↑53 | “o” over “plugo” |
↑54 | “b” over “Aguelo” |
↑55 | The age refers to the mozo Alonso, not the Abuelo Juan Fernandez. In modern mechanics it would be set off with commas. |
↑56 | “o” over “le” |
↑57 | “h” over “abra” |
↑58 | “y” over “e” |
↑59 | “que os” for this laguna based on other manuscripts |
↑60 | “h” over “obe” |
↑61 | “e” over “hicistes” |
↑62 | This manuscript is followed by extensive notes by the copyist. |
