Ana María Josepa Dorotea Egual y Miguel, most commonly known as María Egual, was a Spanish playwright and poet. Born in 1655 in Castellón de la Plana to José Egual Borrás and Basilia Miguel, she married Crisóstomo Peris de Perey y Algarra, marquis of Castellfort, in 1676. Known best for her poetry and plays, she often hosted tertulias, social gatherings of writers, in which they shared their ideas and works. Prior to her death in 1735, she burned the majority of her written works.
